On what grounds could they open a case?

My first thought was 'who ever thought it was a good idea to give a baby a spear to hold?!':hilarious:
The original is truly stunning and puts the workmanship on the others into perspective!

Sorry to say, but any made up thing they want. The horror stories sellers used to tell on the Ebay jewelry board were amazing for the creativity alone.

One buyer made the rounds through various sellers -- her thing was to buy expensive pieces, complain about some imagined defect, and request a discount "rather than leave bad feedback." And no, she absolutely did not want to "just return it."

Even though ebay had rules against such things (feedback "hostage"), ebay did not block her. And, worst of all, imo, if the seller refused to play, ebay would not remove the negative feedback.

And her "discount requests" were in the 30-50% range. Everyone on the board eventually blocked her, but what about all the sellers not on the board? Ebay did not care.

Wonder who first made the alterations from Thorvaldsen's original to the way the scene is rendered on cameos. (Will have to keep an eye out for ones that stay closer.) I understand why his helmet was put back on Mars' head; if left to the side, the width needed for an oval to fit the whole scene would then have had an awful lot of empty space above & below. But why was the other change made? Usually it goes the other way, with the cameo more modest than the original.

Have heard such tales from sellers I know. I've only dipped a toe into selling, but always do so with trepidation because of this. Seller does get to reply to negs, but not in many words.

IMO, way easier to carve that scrunched up blob of fabric and a dangle ( :jawdrop: ) than to carve the beautifully/tastefully draped fabric of the original.

Could be, although what generally happened was that some master engraver first copied a Thorvaldsen relief or a Canova sculpture as an intaglio. There was such a craze for impressions of these gems, the designs were widely circulated, including to cameo cutters. It's possible there is an engraved intaglio that made the change first. Suppose I will have to look, even if only for my own curiosity. :)

Anyone have a clue about what the object is next to the lady? Like a cross between a bow & a lyre:

She has also got those flowers plastered on the side of her head. Very well cut; very weirdly composed.

I'm sorry but that is shocking and hilarious in equal measures!. I just nearly spat my coffee out :hilarious:
I will add teeth on cameos to my dislike of hands in photos!

No, she's not. Seller is someone I exchange messages & Christmas cards with. Know it would not be from her family either. The cameo I showed at post 1455 had come down to a male descendant, possibly a great grandnephew of sitter, who had lost all knowledge of who it portrays, even that it is valuable in its own right. Just one more thing he had no more use for & asked wife to sell.

That's just a wee bit spectacular, no? Elizabeth I. Considering all those diamonds, price is not that bad. If you happen to have a spare 13 thou on hand. Thanks for showing her. :)
