No markings on findings. Any idea where/when from? There were some Chinese pieces in the mix. No clue if these are related. Gold tone not gold 3C8C4ABE-5C3D-4EEF-B437-16CFBECACCEE.jpeg 607A44D2-FB53-42F1-8CE4-E7ED52E823D4.jpeg 7C8EC985-6679-401E-8E9D-E007706E20FC.jpeg

No one on these? I figured these would be a no brainer for some of the jewelry folks around here.

But I want free answers and I want them now. And I want to start sentences with “but” and “and”! It’s my world after all.

Just a little self bump in case no one noticed it the first time around. :). Im rarely if ever in a rush for anything, least of all gracious assistance.

    ok...
2 lovely hand made necklaces, with well chosen high quality stones , that dance and glow in the light , put together by a talented artist with thoughtfulness and care.
Notice how the quality clasps have stones attached to them , so as not to leave a space in the flowing design !!

A real tour de force !!!!

    circa 1960's

    Better ?

    Daft sod.

I think they're Czech glass or possibly German. The "agate" ones look Czech. Sixties.

I like them, have some similar stuff.

    What is "Daft sod"?

Does anyone know if a beaded necklace is marked "Germany" does it mean that it is a pre WWII piece? Before the division of Germany?

Basically, it's an affectionate Brit term for someone who's being amusingly silly. ;)

Germany shows up on sixties pieces quite often. It will usually mean what was then West Germany. You have to look at the whole object for context.

    Thank you, Ownedbybear!
I was thinking the same as I have one marked Germany that does look about 1960s but have read this statement (that if it is marked Germany, it is definitely before the division, i.e. before WWII) online in a seller's description and decided to ask here.

The East never used Germany, as far as I know, but rather DDR. I'm trying to think if I've ever seen anything with East Germany on. Don't think so.

Ownedbybear, you are right, East Germany was marked DDR, I have seen a lot of pieces manufactured there, not jewelry but all kind of appliances and also many books, all marked DDR (or ГДР in Cyrillic). They were an important member of Comecon (the internal economic system of the Soviet empire). East Germany was a qollocuial name only. It was an ideological imperative for them to use DDR because they had to stress how democratic their rule was. Even East Berlin was officially referred to as "Berlin, the capital of DDR". So if it is Germany, it is either before WWII or from West Germany (Federal Republic of Germany, or Bundesrepublik Deutschland). After the unification they together became FRG.
The thing is that all kind of unsubstantiated claims can be found online, like the one I mentioned, that if it is marked Germany, it has to be before WWII.

Are the brown ones plastic? (in between the agate (rather lovely)looking ones).
I’ve got a W Germany necklace with similar beads which are made of some weird plastic.

@IvaPan my compliments on an excellent explanation. One of the things I love about collecting is the cross reference with history and politics.

Kate, I've seen the brown ones as some kind of synthetic too.

I was very snooty about the plastic ones but realised that some of them are gorgeous and very affordable so if I see them I pick them up.

Thank you very much, @Ownedbybear, very kind of you! I share your opinion, much of the pleasure in collecting comes from the exploration of history and politics of particular places, and learning new things about them.

I think my Germany necklace is all plastic, too, it has beads of different color, I will have to have a look again but as far as I recall, brown, green and crystal clear, faceted, made of very light plastic.
