Just to be sure, Manhattan, right?

    Maybe but stylized if so...

The only thing that makes it Manhattan is the distinctive shape of the UN headquarters building. The rest looks mostly made up.

I thought that as well so East River but not convinced that's what it is.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

If you search Edgar Stareck Manhattan several other paintings of his come up. None that I saw are from that angle, though. And this one looks... not sure how to put this. The shapes of the buildings are more rudimentary, almost like dark cutouts. And they are shaped in sort of a stylized way, almost like sets in some very old movies or theatre plays.

Definitely not Architecturally Correct. And I seriously doubt there were ever smokestacks south of the UN (at least not after the building went up.)

You should be correct in that assessment though there are some a distance north for the power station.

The UN building is curved. That one is straight up and down.

That is true but nothing is per actuality in this so maybe it is...

But if you're looking from the far side of the river, and painting in a semi-impressionist, non-representational style, the little dome gets lost - as does much more of the actual detail. ;)

At the end if the day, that is how the artist saw the things.
