    Hi, all! :)

This brooch was my mother's, I think bought in the late '50s or early '60s. It's about 1-1/2" in diameter.

I didn't get a good shot of the mark on the back. It's an oval that says "Made in Austria."

Any thoughts on the maker? And what would be good keywords to use if I put it on eBay?

    Thanks for any help...

Unfortunately, Austria is probably all you'll ever know. The factories there almost never signed anything.

Made in Austria was used post WW2. before that they had funny crosses, or k.u.k. and some other marks. there was no legislation that fixed the use of "Austria", Made in etc.
keywords here I'd start to research would be Strass and Gablonz.

That's a pretty brooch, Pat. You may already know this, but an applicable keyword/phrase for it is 'inverted rhinestones' (not all of them are ... but some on the outer edge).

Thanks for the info. I wonder why they wouldn't add a business name to the mark?

Thanks for the tip. I saw "inverted rhinestones" on some eBay listings but don't know what it means? The outer rhinestones are tilted down very slightly... is that what's meant?

It means they're in the settings upside down. The pointy part usually goes on the bottom.

    Thanks. :)

I think it looks even better in person... there's something about giant rhinestones that's a little much for me.
