I have an engraving by New York artist Linda Stein. It is entitled Impromptu Nudes and is number 66/90. I believe it was made in 1968; it comes with a coa. Can anyone tell me if her art is collectible? Thank you.

Ummmmm...not so sure......I don't think she was active in 68..

Linda Stein (born 1943) is an American feminist artist whose work focuses on themes of protection and otherness. Stein's work is primarily abstract and figurative sculpture. Stein also has a history of nonfiction writing and art education.

    I
i know, but if the typed paper I have with the etching would upload you will see that this lady and one you mention are both born in 1943 and went to same art school/college in queens and have same signature. Only thing I am going by for 1968 is year that is on jmb publishing coa and that could be date of their founding and not date of image. I am positive it’s same artist, I just can find no info.

    well , it may be.....
but if it is...... and you wanna know if it's collectable...

"an American feminist artist whose work focuses on themes of protection and otherness. Stein's work is primarily abstract and figurative sculpture."

and it's nudes.....then I'd say the market for that would be extremely limited....& if she saw it she's want to burn it !!

But ...hey........that's just one mans opinion !!

Images will have to wait til tomorrow; I tried sending image to my email and then posting but didn’t work for me.

Collectibility is largely in eye of beholder and I’m not particularly crazy about the image but it does have my curiosity.

I also have a sizeable collection of posters and original artwork by Michael Priest, Kerry Awn and others for concerts at the Armadillo World Headquarters 1970-1980. If anyone can give me info on collectibility of this type of stuff it will be appreciated.

For something to be collectable , it has to have broad appeal , perceived value, and be highly promoted.

true, but items can also be extremely esoteric (but have to have broad enough appeal and promotion) and still have an enormous amount of (perceived) value ... ultimately, i believe most things that are collectible now will become forgotten in years to come ... in many cases i think being collectible depends on personal desire or the significance it contributes to society in any of a number of ways ... but that's just me and many things i collect others consider worthless
