    Here...in the SELL FORUM...
elsewhere.... get the stone appraised 1st.....then if it's over 1 carat...your local jeweler may sell it 4 u on commission....buy it off you.....or direct you towards a likely buyer...
    online.....is a problem...
craigs list....kajjijji....classified ad......only complete the sale in a cops parking lot during shift change !!

Assuming normal circumstances, the ring should be returned to the giver, or his estate.

I have no source to quote on this subject but, an "engagement ring" is specifically given in contemplation of marriage. If the marriage does not take place, the ring is returned. If Mademoiselle is acquisitive she may, however, keep the furs, diamond earrings, the Jag, and all the other rings Monsieur might have presented to her.

The English explanation hereunto given (ahem!) makes the whole scene rather dicey. There is no need for him to say anything to her, other than, "This is your engagement ring."

    Good manners dictate the rest.

My 1st fiancee , did not return the ring.....as I was told her mother threw it out on the front lawn.....
If true...I'm sure they later hunted it down...as no one throws away a 1.2 carat diamond....that she herself was allowed to select !!!

She should have let me purchase the Nova SS 350......but that's a story for another time ! :inpain:

I had a 73 Nova SS 350 for a number of years, but after 2 long sea voyages probably tied down on the deck of a transport ship it had a bad case of rust.

um, assumption of facts not in evidence, here.

Possessing an "engagement ring to sell" is not automatically equivalent to "I have a broken engagement."

When my divorce was finalized, you bet your ass I sold my engagement ring. Wedding band, too.

And sometimes the certain someone (or their estate) doesn't want the ring back.

And sometimes people say "engagement ring" when they mean "diamond solitaire" (or such).

Once you are married then the ring is yours. Prior to the wedding, if the engagement is broken, it should be returned. Just ask Judge Judy.

I was simply providing examples to demonstrate that possessing an engagement ring you wish to sell is not always the same as having a broken engagement.

I don't have network or cable tv, so Judge Judy's authority is lost on me. :hilarious:

I have somebody's grandma's ring here, but it's not being sold; I'm too busy hoarding it! If selling an unwanted engagement ring, I'd find a good local jewelry store with an "estate" section. If one's available. Diamonds don't go for as much as you thing, so a pawn shop might only buy the ring for the price of the gold if the stone's not that great. If it's an old ring, jewelry store recommendation squared. Good local auction houses are another alternative. If you're not experienced, I wouldn't sell it on line.

I watch scrappers and British Antiques Alley stuff on Youtube instead. Unlike Judge Judy, they're entertaining and you learn something.
