    Hi everyone,

A few finds today as I hopped through many thrift stores. I still have a lot of work to polish the sterling cane cap, but the tea strainer was enjoyable to see it come back to beauty. Total paid was less than $3.

Why does the cane handle look plated and the S/8 in the sterling "stamp" looks smaller or a different font?

I thought the same thing regarding the oxidizing on the outside. It appears to have some heavy build up. I cleaned a bit of it and it appears to come off. The marking looks fine to me but it’s heavily oxidized and I couldn’t get a great photograph yet

Well shoooooooot. After working a bit more of the cane, something just didn't seem right with the tone, so I stopped what I was doing and pulled out the acid test kit...I learned that I now own a cane with a fake sterling marking, because it's definitely a base metal underneath. If there's any good news, it's that I didn't spend my night scrubbing anymore.

It does. It's pretty and I know it's real, but my mind is angry with not seeing the obvious signs on the cane. I trusted that wonderful word "sterling" far too much...

Small point from tea addict Brit. None of those are tea strainers. ;)
