Hi everyone! I'm a little confused about this necklace and hoping you can help. Is it considered to be a lavalier? It hangs a little strangely. It is 1/20 14K GF. Do you think it is rock crystal quartz? It does go a good bit above glass on my gem tester. I looked through a loupe and don't see any bubbles, mostly scuffs. What age do you think it is, a little older or more modern? Thanks for the help all :)

That's either been altered or crafted, I suspect.

It's a neat looking piece. I think it is probably on the newer side, but is there some kind of hang tag on the back?

Interesting design, and the glass does kind of look like it could be rock crystal. I might guess artisan made, like for sale at a nicer craft show. Some of those artisan pieces can be on the pricey side, too.

    It's a pretty design.

Maybe lead crystal (man made), something like Swarovski crystal?
    Ditto.

The way it is now made, the top crystal hangs sideways, which looks a bit awkward. It was made as a dangle.
It is difficult to see the construction with the wire and bead parts, but maybe try the following:
If you are handy with jeweller's pliers, try to get the top crystal out of the wire construction without doing any damage.:nailbiting:
Then join the two wire and bead parts together and hang the crystal dangle from the centre with the wide part at the bottom. That makes more sense.

Be very careful, crystal can chip. Good luck.:)

Thank you! The hangtag is a little metal flower.

I tried the ole gem tester again and it does go to the quartz line. Unfortunately I am not terribly handy when it comes to reconstructing jewelry, I wish I was :arghh:. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated :)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Agree! But one side of is definitely shorter than the other. It appears that the side to our right in the photos has more wire.
