Featured What Would You Suggest re: engagement ring?

We went to Old and Gold on Fort Street. Very helpful and lots of sparkly stuff. We've also been to Dog's Breath in Sidney. They have some really interesting vintage gem jewelery.

Gold bar!? I want to know about that!!!!

 

Nothing like it was before (trust me, Victoria is NOT like it was before ) -- with the advent of ebay, amazon and on-line shopping just about all the antique stores have gone.

 

Ah, it was a 1 ounce bar of .999 pure gold (more like a wafer, LOL) that my mother in law purchased years ago. It's considered bullion and not scrap, so my husband got a good $ for it!

 

there used to be a guy near the corner Gov't ....is that the major cross street..?.....who had lots of baskets and other NWC art....
I bought two argillite carvings from him.....and did well on both...
plus....my pal had Pacific Editions...down the street.... and Lunds auction house was just doors down...

 

Oh yeh. Vintage silver and gold bars carry a good premium over scrap. Particularly gold. Good for her!

 

@komokwa That store is no longer there, but lots of NWC art around for purchase. I do like some the young indigenous artists' stuff -- I like to see art evolve! I remember Pacific Editions, but don't recall if it's still there. Lund's is the sole remaining auction house as Kilshaw's closed a few years ago. I used to attend auctions (mainly for fun) but not now. I have consigned some stuff with Good Things in Oak Bay (the upper class municipality here, LOL!) and have done surprisingly well. I consigned a bit of my Mom's lesser jewelery so it will be interesting to see if it sells over the Christmas period. Much easier to consign that list, package and post!!

 

Pacific editions is gone as well....
Lunds was a strange place, but I got some nice things from them...
Kilshaws....I never knew of them, till I found out about them....then never knew when their auctions were....then they were gone.....

Yes, I was sad, too. I preferred Kilshaw's to Lunds. They didn't survive having to move from Fort Street to Langley Street.

 

me too I didn't like the Langley Street location, it just didn't have the same vibe as Fort Street (to me)

 

Lunds used to pack and ship as part of their service...
then they stopped and referred me to the UPS store.....
extra cost, extra time, and extra folks handling my items....
it became untenable ............
