Antiques That Used To Sell Well But Don't Anymore?
    • Art Pottery - Many pieces of Roseville Pottery have experienced huge depreciations in value. Many pieces that would have sold for $100+ fifteen years ago now sell for $25-30. Exceptions: There is still a strong market for scarcer art pottery including better Roseville lines.
    • Antique Furniture - Not across the board of course but it is hard to find any categories of antiques where prices have fallen further than furniture. Dark wood and large bulky pieces have been hit hard with few exceptions. Saw a roll top desk sell for $200 at an antique auction that would have hammered for $1500+ a few decades ago. This may be the time to buy since I don't see how prices could get much lower than they already are.
    • Shirley Temple Items, Elvis Pressley Collectables, & Other Similar Items - The number of people that have nostalgia over these cult of personality items is getting fewer every year and younger generations don't have the same fondness for these items.
    • Stamps - The collector base has all but dematerialized in recent decades and the only stuff holding value is the exceedingly rare. Many collections are reduced to being used as discount postage.

Old glassware. Can't give the stuff away. Depression glass was so hot and now I just pass it by in the thrifts. Beautiful wheel-cut and etched sets of glassware go begging.

I can see Roseville being on a decline because they made so much of it. I always see it in antique shops and auctions/flea markets etc. Old glassware too like Brad said can't give it away. I'm trying to sell the rest I have but probably going to list it in a huge lot that way I can get what I get all at once. I'm just tired of messing with it. Candleabras used to be popular but not so much anymore

Tell you what, one category of antique furniture that keeps rolling along and if anything, keeps increasing? SHAKER!
I am not sure exactly why though, it just doesn't seem to notice that there is a depression in old furniture at all, still highly collectible. Ditto Pantry boxes, seed boxes, baskets, up! Up! & UP!

Ceramics, glass, and silver-plate. That stuff sits...and sits...and sits...and SITS. You couldn't sell it for 10c a pound where I live.

What Joe said. And everybody else.

The only category of stuff that I can think of that HASN'T depreciated that I also collect are miniature oil lamps. You don't see many, and they usually still go for good prices.

Other than that, our house o' goodies has probably lost 60% of its value in the past 5-10 years.

I think it's my fault. Everything I have for sale has gone south. Only 3 of my last 17 eBay auctions even got a bid, and only for the opening bid. Everything I WANT to buy maintains unreachable heights, such as Wedgewood Fairyland Lustre, Mt Washington Royal Flemish, Salem witch pieces, wax mourning dolls, 18th century or earlier memento mori rings, and antique holiday anything. :meh:

Hummels. If you want to get depressed, look at where "figurines" of any sort have gone in the last few years. I went to an estate sale this morning, big mistake, and everyone took one look at the Lladros and kept walking. Street signs moved briskly, but the ceramics and glass just sat.

Dionne quintuplet memorabilia has gone in the tank too. Anything pop culture that is pre-WWII is pretty well down the tubes. All of the buyers are either dead or selling off their collections and ...pfffft. Turn the lights off on your way out.
