Featured Opinions on this odd wee brooch please

An oddity. Trombone clasp, brass, I suspect early 20th or so, and perhaps French or Austrian. But the "stone" puzzles me. The white bits looks a bit like frit glass with some gold leaf. I'd thought at first glance it was separately set "stones" but the whole thing is all in one, including some rather gloopy gilded bits. And then, the middle. A bit like foiled glass, but the back looks almost like terracotta, and seems signed.I can't get my fat fingers inside properly, but it may well be enamelled.

Thoughts.....?

 

I'm wondering whether the writing inside the back is a very rough "Italy"?

First guess, and it might be way off.

 

I think it might be polymer clay. I've seen some brooches made with polymer and stone.

 

I've had a tap at it, and it seems to ring like metal, which is interesting. I'm now wondering if it's some kind of enamel work.

By these years, they made thick "blobs" so the piece looked like cabochons put together!
I highly prefer the delicate Limoges enamel painted miniatures of the end of 19th/beginning of 20th

The writing on the back could say "limoges" if it were turned upside down! Or maybe it was an individual person's name?
