I'm not into thieves ...unless the swipee leaves the item out with a "Steal Me" sign on it, which your seller did!

And he is nice enough to ship it to me in spite of it all.

I like the ones you bought better than the expensive ones... although both pairs look lovely!

I agree. The ones I bought have a bit more character I think. They have more enamel which adds to the Medieval/Renaissance look. But the other pair is gorgeous too.

The earrings have arrived, and I have replaced the missing coral bead. The bead next to it needed some extra wire or it would fall of as well. Luckily I had some old gilded brass wire much like the original bead wire among my repair stuff, which was thin enough to pass through the beadholes.
The original earhooks were lost in the mists of time, and the earrings came with recent kidney wires. The wires were so thin they had too much room to move about and could potentially damage the coral, and the pendants kept slipping off the bend in the wire they were supposed to stay in.
So I made some shepherd hooks (with 19th century style long straight ends) from gilded eye pins. They can move a bit, but not so much that they damage the coral.

To refresh your memory, the photo from the listing, coral bead missing at the top of the one on the left:

Top bead added, bead to the right of it re-wired, simple home made 19th century style shepherd hooks, and a teeny spot of white enamel on the lower left 'restored':

    I guess I saved myself 597.25 pounds.
And needless to say I am wearing them right now.:)

Nice job! I always save the sterling ear wires off of earrings I cannibalize and have them floating around. (modern singles and the like) I use them to rehab earrings that come in without.

    Thank you.:)
I save any jewellery parts that can still be used, and I am so glad I had this old wire for the beads, it is not as shiny as new wire and blends in with the original. I think it came off a ca 1900 necklace that was in pieces.

Good use for it then. I always save the bits if possible.

    Thanks, Figs.
I don't have @kyratango 's expertise, but do my bit for 'wounded' jewellery in a more modest way. Both earrings and I are happy.:) My bank balance is happy too.:D

Woohooo! :woot:Superb find, 1880s champlevé enamel:cyclops: and excellent AJ-sation, as Figtree said;)

I keep too all parts of broken jewelry, kind of "in case of" hoard:joyful:

    Thanks, kyra.
Of course, champlevé rather than cloisonné, what was I thinking!:banghead: Well, cloisonné on automatic pilot, obviously.:shame:
Would you date them as 1880, and are they French? Anywhere specifically? I have seen that kind of work before, but descriptions always say frustrating things like 19th century or Victorian. Not much use for an aspiring jewellery historian.;)

Yes, I'd say French and 1880s, of course impossible to find examples to show now, but saw bunch of them when I haunted the big antique/brocante fairs in Paris decades ago.
This decoration/fashion may well be related to our "colonies", because of the exotic look they have. Lots of desk baubbles, card trays and candle holders of this era looked like colorful Oriental rugs decor in bronze/brass champleve :)

The earrings look like there's a strong Turkish influence, maybe as interpreted in Austria-Hungary.

Ah, good, that is a start, because now I want more jewellery like it of course, preferably for a similar price.;)
Could be, but I was thinking Gothic Revival, inspired by pieces like this 13th century French disc, which even has a similar central rosette:

The type of enamel looks more French than Austro-Hungarian to me. Champlevé enamel continued to be made in places like Limoges.
The influence in Austro-Hungarian jewellery is European Historic btw, not Turkish. They copied the styles of the European Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods. Those were as flamboyant as Turkish pieces of the same periods, but culturally European.
    Thanks, KSW.
