Nice stuff everyone! Love all the finds, loads of neat stuff.
I got an antique bronze? (I think) figural Bacchus (Roman god of wine & intoxication) easel dresser mirror, $5. at a local yard sale. The mirror isn't perfect, and shows age, but at least it's not broken.
I'm guessing late 19th century, but need to do more research.

Yes if I'm not mistaken, bats do symbolize good luck.

There's also engravings of birds, dragonflies, etc witihin the silver mounts. The Chinese porcelain washer itself is just a run-of-the-mill piece. What makes it special is the French silver mount conversion. Not sure why the former owner in those days (late-19th C.) choose to have such elaborate mounts placed on a not so desirable piece of porcelain. To each his/her own I guess.

 

Speaking of Chinese porcelain, I was trying to figure out what made the linked stand a $20,000 piece, and most others $4 - $5,000 pieces.

After a few days of researching these Kangxi period stands, the one BIG difference I noticed within the decoration of the $20,000 stand and all others was/is: it's very fine, and the stippled black scrolling at the sides. No other stand I found so far has this fine black stipple scrolling...................................besides the one I found.



I hope this is a good sign that mine should sell just as well. Fingers crossed!

None of my business but I just think you should keep that singing bird box. I would not part with that!

I put my foot in my own mouth at a sale a month ago. It was not a bird box like that but one of the more comon singing bird cages. priced at 45.00 (which is not a bad price)
So I offer 20 and we dicker and she said 40 was her final. It was pretty had 2 birds. I walked to the car and then back to buy it and she changed her mind.......

 

MYMY, that bites huh? When I lose out on a deal I just pacify myself and tell myself,"reason for everything"....then I cry.

I collected a lot of Asian pieces over the years as there is something about the artwork that is so lovely. Nothing like yours but someday I will post abunch of my Chinese and Japanese stuff and see if anyone can ID,also I would LOVE to oneday find a diamond in the rough I have a few kimonos stuffed away somewhere too

I do not see them very often and really wanted it. I have one but it is pretty plain and some conditions. This one had pretty colorful birds both worked sooo cute..oh well yeah those ones always bother you though. You never know with people she was ready to negotiate but got ebay silly...

Nuff the detail on that stand is pretty darn cool!

Well,when I bought them they were treasures to me,then I saw all the REAL treasures on the internet and the AB and decided mine were junk. Back in the day everything looked like a great find I will take pics though and see, I can take the laughs

 

Thanks MYMY, but we're going to re-sell it after the restoration. The little birdy ain't singing, but the timepiece works just fine. The box was made by Raymy and retailed by Mersmann: http://www.mersmann.ch/ circa first quarter of the 20th century. Once restored, probably worth in the neighborhood of $8 - $15,000 would be my guess from looking at sold comparables. That entire $390 lot will probably fetch somewhere close to the mid-five figures once all is said and done.........


Here's a $65 lot:

18th/19th century Chinese lobed washer, Republic era porcelain figure and miniature carved nut boat with wood stand. The other two items are a vintage 1969 Rolex watch bracelet and a ancient carved stone figure of a platypus or head profile.

This one: http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/...7338&sid=169aa33a-248d-4d6a-8aa2-d23165f69a89 is much more close in forum to my stand, but my stand has six legs, the foliated rim is barbed with six points and the decoration is much finer than that example shown within the link. It appears unusual forum and fine decoration is what drives the price on these stands.

Found this Imari Charger on a recent trip to S Carolina. Too big to fit in the suitcase! We had to have it packed and shipped by UPS. Sorry, can't figure out how to post a photo of it!

 

Found this at the TS. Found the Double Old Fashion glasses (3) on the candle shelf 2 days ago, didn't know what they were but thought they were cool, then today I see the carafe and snagged it as it was coming out of the basket to be put on the shelf $6.50 for all.
