I admit defeat that I can’t identify this mark! :arghh:
I’ve spent way too long thinking it was the French hare/rabbits head but the date and cartouche don’t fit and now I see it in a photo I’ve been barking up completely the wrong tree.
It’s hallmarked on the outside of the band which is why I was thinking French (and why it got missed and bought for £2.49!).
It tests very positive for 14kt and faded out slowly at 20k but I’ve run out of 18k.
    Any help welcome :)
    Thankyou

You're right it is French. Not the hare, but the eagle.:)

It's hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like it was sized with a piece of 14K gold.

Wow Holly, Hawkeye! You win the forum prize tonight :) Thankyou
I’d never have seen that but you are absolutely right. So a piece of 14k used to upsize a 18k ring (cheapskates!)
Now with this piece of info I can see that what I thought was a deep scratch on the outside of the band is actually half of another stamp which was cut when the ring was resized. I’ll try to get a photo.

Ah Thankyou, a slightly smushed eagle but that makes sense.

Is it possible to get an idea of date by design?

    kyratango Bug jewellery addiction!

The partial mark left after the resizing has to be the maker's mark (always in a lozenge).
I "feel" your nice find is around 1960:).

Miight be slightly later into seventies, going purely on the style of some rings I've got.

It's beautiful, nice find! I love a big chunky colored stone!
And what a bargain! Woo hoo!

    Thankyou.
The stone has a small chip sadly so could do with being replaced.

If it is very small, maybe it could be polished?

I'd think it could. I don't think it's worth the cost of replacing it in terms of sales value.

I think I can see it in your photo. It doesn't look too distracting. Amethysts are quartz after all, and they chip easily.
I still think it's real pretty, and I would wear it in a heartbeat!
I love the color, so cool and fresh!
