    Hi @Needful things

I believe it's a Japanese bonsai planter - for arrangement. Someone can give a firmer answer for you I'm sure :)

Try tetsubin tea kettle warmer or brasier. Maybe part of. Again, I'm guessing - others can be more precise, no doubt :)

    7in wide 1-1/2 inch tall
    Bowl shape
Was bought by my grandfather from a auction in ny in the 70s other then that I don’t know anything else. Very heavy and solid weight

    Only 1 1/2" tall.
Both of scout's ideas sound plausible.

[IMG]Some like these also fit into a taller stand...

Antique 1920s cast iron vase for the art of ikebana flower arranging.
Large flat black painted circle with center pedestal for flowers. Inside of center pedestal is not painted, it has a nice coat of rust. Whether you are learning ikebana or are a seasoned practitioner, this vase is ready to serve.

This may have originally had a base it fit into, somewhere in it's transfer from one generation to the next, the base, if there was one, went astray.

    SIZE 10.5" diameter, 3.75" tall

CONDITION Very good. Outside of the vase is a chippy from use.

This is a vintage item. It has been used and loved and it has a history. Please examine photos carefully and ask questions, as we are unable to accept returns or exchanges

It would have a frog sitting inside to stabilize the flowers and other elements...

Totally inappropriate for bonsai, but perfect for ikebana.

It isn't. ;) But it works for illustration.

I have reported this post, and not embarrassed to say so. I hope anyone who dislikes this attitude, does the same rather than responding to the poster directly.
