    Good morning!

As you all know by now, i have a little problem with finding correct period for furniture :D

so again i will ask for little of your help and thought...
This table came to us in bad shape, but because it is beautiful and unusually large we had it a go to make it look spectacular again...

Table came from Austria it is 190 x 93 x 80 cm or 75 x 37 x 31,5 inch... it was told to me that it is high option that the table its a least 300 years old, because of how the drawers are made... the table originally had a wooden "rolo" (i dont know if its a right word) in the back - you can see the space for it in the pictures... we didnt restore it because it wasn't salvageable :(

So i was looking if it is really that old or is just something remade from maybe 19 or even 20 century... and now i am highly confused :D

So any thougts from you guys will help me a lot to!

Thank you all and have a great Saint Nicholas day !

I'm looking forward to seeing what the experts say.
My nonexpert opinion: beautiful high-end 20th century executive desk (not table).
    I don't know what a "rolo" is.

I'm not good with furniture but I think a photo of the way the drawer front is joined to the drawer sides might be helpful for someone.

    Beautifully restored, Irenka!
Do you mean one of those 'hoods' made of thin wooden slats, that you can roll into a compartment to get to the desk top?

Yes exactly AJ ! I couldnt find words to describe it, it was thin wood rolled in the back and you could stretch it out...

And thank you for your compliment

Yes-like AJ,a 'roll top'. Quote-'The rolling part of a roll-top desk is actually a tambour: a flexible sliding shutter. The tambour, French word for "drum," was favored by the Sheraton and Hepplewhite schools of the late 1700's. It is made of a series of closely set wooden ribs. They are glued to a backing of strong cloth, and move in guiding grooves.I guess Your's would have been a half or partial tambour.

Irenka- Did You do the restoration (Translate bot-'реконструкция' or 'renowacja' ?) of the desk to make it good again ? Quite professional work/job.

I'm always very pleasantly surprised at how much wonderful information I get from you all...maybe tambour will be the key to finding more history of it, before I didn't even know how to look for it and even if I had saw that word I wouldn't know how it related to table :D so thank you!

Yes, we did the "restavriranje" our self... we had some problems with shellac because it is so cold right now and we dont have furnice so it was rather sticky job but somehow it came out allright.

I think @bosko69 is getting confused because we also have a Bulgarian member and a few Ukrainian ones.
You are Slovenian, so also a Slavic language, but a different one, with different influences.
It certainly did, and thank you for rescuing old and antique furniture.:)

The way the front of the drawer is joined to the side of the drawer like these can help with dating I believe. (I apologize if I'm missing seeing it in your photos). The site this photo is from has some information but I'm not savvy enough to assess it.

Examples from a different piece of furniture of the areas I mean, I don't think I see photos of yours.

I am very happy that i found this multicultural heaven for antiquers, here those old lads that know something about this things dont want to share their knowledge... but this is somewhat slovenian tradition - dont share if it is not for your benefit... i had very unplesant ancounter with one of them yesterday and it still gives me shivers, how much some people just want you to have it harder even though they went thru same path that i am going now... maybe when i will be 30 they will start to take me serious :p

with pleasure and i just hope that i could do this for the rest of my time, this truly is my dream job, even though i have so much to learn still!

It does get better as you get older.
I had my first Asian antiques shop when I was 22, and when I went out to buy stock there were sellers who said "that will cost you a lot of your pocket money".:hilarious:
Some sellers ignored me, but others said "you really know something about it". Those were the ones I went back to, because they were willing to share information and bargains.

Possible 300 year old European furniture is out of my wheelhouse. That said, construction such as this is typical of early to mid 19th century furniture, as well as the earlier periods. Something about the simplicity of this tells me this is not 18th century. I could be wrong. Wish we had some members with some expertise in this area.
