I'm really confused too. How do you know the locket is from 1880? Why do you think the locket is unique? Why do you think you can trace the family when you don't have their surname? And to start at the very beginning... How did you acquire the locket? And what were you told about it?

Ah... So is this your locket? For sale on 1st Dibs with an asking price of $45,000?

I asked about signs of a beard with the thought that pix may be of the same boy at different ages.

  10. You search through photos of families if possible. This locket is from 1880s. I’m looking for a wealthy family or a royal family. Those were the clients of the jewelry house at the time.

So you purchased it in 2014? And you have it listed currently on 1st Dibs? It's certainly a lovely thing. Curious... If you purchased it from a dealer who provided a letter of authentication from Boucheron , why have you contacted the company again? (The letter states they have no additional information in their archives.) And why, if Boucheron gives it a 1902 date, are you using an 1880 date?

  14. It was not sold in auction in 2014. If you read the website it clearly says “NOT SOLD” the dealer most likely just held on to it. I purchased it this year 2022. I did not get this letter, but I will also send this info to Boucheron and request a translation and to verify. Yes they give a date but that too could be speculation. They don’t have definitive proof it wasn’t produced earlier. So it still falls in the range of 1880-1902. Thé signature is said to align with certain dates but this piece is also one of a kind. No other locket exist like this. Could be a commission piece. Would have been helpful if they would have said who… but it’s clear they did not have things too well documented back then.

  16. I mean I am hoping for some help but Debra seems to be just going in a whole different direction. All info not really relèvent. Post on 1stdibs, etc. That has nothing to do with the question I asked. Great I know you can google search by photo. But I own the locket. So what it’s online. I’m just looking for info to search. Why keep questioning me about my purchase.

dealer has confirmed they probably still have the letter, so I have requested they send me the letter. I will also send to Boucheron. Really would like it translated.

I say it’s getting entertaining because you started off innocently enough asking if anyone could identify photos of 2 people from a long time ago. You ask this in the jewelry section, and provided very little context or background. How would anyone here recognize 100+ year old photos?

then as people question…. It starts to become clear, you know quite a bit more info than you are letting on

then Debora finds it and asked pointed questions

then all the details come pouring out of a firehose

you are trying to find information that would justify raising your price above $45,000 and you want the people here to do your research for free

    so, yeah. It’s getting entertaining

this piece is also one of a kind. No other locket exist like this.

then tracing the locket may be easier than trying to find peoples photo's online..

Since you know very little about the locket, why would you assume it is "one of a kind". It appears to have been die stamped,if it was there could be many in gold and silver.

  20. pieces during this time period were not mass produced. The jewelry house doesn’t have much information on it. If it were mass produced they would have something. We know also that during this time period things were done by hand, so again not mass produced. Lockets are usually personalized for the individuals. Hence all the details in this one. It has the French eagle head meaning 18k. France used that stamp on gold since 1838.
