An odd basket, looks newer

    more like in good condition rather than newer...
    I have one of those hanging on my wall...

    Maine NA , ash and sweetgrass Wabanaki yarn basket.....

    Thank you very much for the response! You say it isn't newer eh? Well then it has held up very well! What period do you think it's from? And why do you think it's from then?

    the colour of the stain, and sweetgrass on the inside...has completely faded on the outside............
    that takes time.........lots o' time..

    the design of these hanging yarn baskets , with that ' much' sweetgrass covering the top and bottom , & having a ring to hang it on the post of a chair..., have not been made for many many decades..

    but were very popular at the turn of the century...

    just fer shits & giggles.........

    yarn baskets continued to be made well after the early 1900's as knitting became more popular, but they grew, and sat on the table or floor...

    the 1950's example shows similar construction.
    the colours are still very noticeable ....and the outside fibre add ons and handles are made of Hong Kong cord....an imported fibre.....because sweetgrass was more time consuming to get and work with......and harder to get as well.
