did you manage to clean them up? am curious to see what they look like without all that dirt. i think probably a careful brushing (toothbrush?) to get the dirt off first, then you can decide whether they need a bath ...
    i really like them :)

Haven’t attempt to open a box yet but I am going to get to it soon. Just a little concerned if I will devalue them. Wondering why they were displayed in this condition, and yes I know that dirt does not mean age but I too really like them a lot. The pictures dont do them justice through the glass.

Promise to put new pictures up after a cleaning.

i am of the opinion that they are just display boxes and the dirt is meant to presume age, but i would wait for other more experienced members to comment.

if you do get a sample of the dirt/soil, it could help in estimating age?

I have to say, I did like him a little bit better dirty. Had more character in the eyes :(

I prefer him clean as well, nice glaze. But if you prefer him dirty, maybe get a little of the dirt that came off him and apply it to the eyes and face for more expression?
Or get him a little sandbox.:playful: Children get dirty faces in no time, and he is only small....:bag:

Ok so it was an insomniac night. In kitchen, cleaning a Chinese MenShen figure at 2:30 in the morning wasnt the way I saw my day ending :hungover:

With a few hours sleep I now have a new fondness for the little guy :) like him much more.

Although it would be his job to protect my house from the terribles, I’m thinking he has grown more accustom to the protection we provide him, in his shadow box. :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

Originally I liked the one I cleaned first more than this one. Probably because I hated the way this one had mud rubbed on the face, making it look very deliberate. But after a very long time to clean this one, I now feel the mud was not put on these to fake age, but to hide the multi broken areas. Right arm and fingers, chest and neck area. Not only mud but had to chip away a lot of excess glue.

But now, even with damage I like this one better. Oh hell, I am not suppose to show favoritism;)

Much better cleaned. What are you using? I am trying to clean an abused fluorite lamp base and still having problems with old dirt.

Simple solution, dawn dish detergent and water, with electric tooth brush(hers)...:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: no no no, not true :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: just kidding :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: and a wooden tooth pick to dig and scrape with gently.

Electric toothbrush - maybe that's the problem. I've been using manual - his.
