Various, a lot for "picking" on a really rotten nasty troll. He was causing problems on several boards but he took great pains to spew his nastiness on the people on the antiques board.

Not all of us were....just the most reprehensible among us !

I got 3 days for my batman photo..
30 days for running into DeepSea & another vicious troll...
& the boot for spelling like an asian person who can't pronounce his R's !!
( eg... you like some fly lice with yo egg lole..? )
The Lithium mods thought I may have insulted someone ....but it was just part of a story I was telling...

Thing is....bye that time I was mostly fed up with the way Lithium was running things into the PC correctness GROUND !!!

Not banned, but the last time I posted to the jewelry board, I got shouted down by a poster for saying that foiled art glass should not be listed as faux opal. The poster said that foiled art glass was made specifically to look like opals, so they didn't see the problem. I said that rhinestones were originally created to look like diamonds, so maybe everyone should list their rhinestones as "faux diamonds" (which that poster actually does or did at the time).

I figure, call it anything you want IRL, but if you're calling it one thing on ebay and it's really another, you're manipulating search results and making it all that harder for people to find the "real" thing.

I could see the argument going south, and I am probably just over sensitive as I'm under a lot of stress this past year, but I didn't wait around for a reply and I haven't been back since.

I still check out the collectibles board occasionally, but it sure is dead.

 

Surely he must have spontaneously combusted by now, not having an outlet for his vitriol! LOL.

Yes, it is so nice to come here without all the drama that was on the antiques board from DSS!

I got banned (short term) several times for reacting to him. I would not have made it through one more banning as they had been progressively increasing my timeouts every time.

The most frustrating was getting pink slapped for just letting people know that he was giving out false information....you'd try to help someone who came looking for information, and yet you'd get kicked in the arse for it!

They locked me out for 3 days for "disguising profanity" as "fluster-cluck". I'd never had any reason to do it until that day and it was the first time I ever heard of the rule. It is illegal to disguise profanity on eBay.

 

They seem to have many rules that are not explicitly stated anywhere. I do still go there, but not for as long nor as often as I do here. Most of the boards and groups there are almost a complete bore nowadays, but sometimes I like to pitch in and help somebody.

 

Oh, and to get back to the topic of the thread... Nice bracelet!

 

Ya...well Fig , there you get slapped for being off topic..and the mods move posts around to where ever they want them, & then beat ya with a stick !!!

Or even if you don't , you're now on the mods radar & any slight hickup can draw their ire....& more !!

Actually, if you stare at that design long enough, you can see that it really looks like a turnip with a wide eyed stare and crazy hair!

 

Every time I got a "vacation" I had lengthy email chats with Mods which amounted to them telling me how incorrect my opinion was and how I needed to just chill. About once a month I wrote to complain about DSS and explained why he was evil and toxic, but all they did was defend him. My take is what a lot of folks thought - he was part of their system and his job was to get rid of real experts. I never went back to analyze it, but I think it had something to do with us actually knowing what was new and what was old and interfering with sales. If items can be misidentified and sold for higher amounts, their fees go up. If we poked holes in the provenance, the fees went down. With them, it's always going to be a case of follow the money. Otherwise, their interference doesn't make sense. I'd be open to another opinion, but that's all I could get out of the situation. There were some boards they didn't touch at all and others where they spent far too much time changing our posts, moving our posts, deleting our posts and giving out pink slaps, Antiques and Collectibles getting the most attention.

I left voluntarily before they banned me for life. Once in a blue moon I sell an item or buy something just to keep my ID open. Maybe some day I'll get back into it. Meanwhile, I sell on Bonanza.

I left the Part Time Sellers board, to hang on the collectibles board because the Mods were interfering with us , more than any other board.
Even if I had been warned about DSS & that other antique guy , it wouldn't have mattered much cuz the mods had me on their radar after painting me pink so often I looked sunburned !
& ya....I had several reasonable conversations with 3 of the top mods.....all to no avail ...as they never relented in their position that they were always right in what they did !!

As if I was expecting a different outcome .....
