Not antique (didn't know which category to put this in), vintage I suppose.
In searching I have found very similar cat lanterns, which are mostly modern, and not exactly like this one. This one also has an inner lining of glass, and I can't find any with that either.
    Your thoughts, pretty please.:cat:
Stands about 9 3/4" high. I haven't cleaned it, so sorry about all the dirt.
Here are some of what I found:

This isn't much help but the Phillips-head screws of course mean fairly recent manufacture. The base looks like it could have had a candle-holder, which was locked in with a twist. Or it could have been mounted in a similar fashion on a yard pole-type light.

If a candle was used, there'd likely be some soot inside. A small electric bulb would work too. I think it'd look pretty cool lit up.

    Thanks steersman
I wondered if it was missing something, darn it !
If I get around to cleaning it, I'll try to light it up and post a pic.
    Thanks again for the help.:)

The shape of that hole with the two slots means there was a light fixture that went in there and turned to hold it in. You should be able to find something to fit at the hardware store. I rewire lamps all the time. This is one cool item even if it's not old. An orange light for Halloween!

It reminds me of a lantern that I bought while on vacation in Arizona in the '90s. The lantern was metal and lined with glass which puffed out of the little holes like yours does, held a candle and was made in Mexico. It's still around here somewhere. I really like the idea of an orange lightbulb for your cat. Tick tock! Halloween's this Thursday/Friday, but no pressure.

Hahaha!:joyful: Tick tock....Yes, I guess it is a bit creepy! It is outside my front door now (to scare off any sales people:cool:).
I still haven't done a darn thing to it yet, sigh. But I will at least get a candle or something in there for Halloween night. That is a great idea, to put an orange light.
I don't know how I missed Bev's post back in September ? Thanks Bev.
Thanks ola for the info about Mexico, that is very likely where it came from.
I got to admit I like it. I had my black kitty for almost 20 years, and she was the cat love of my life. I miss her so much.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I missed this one earlier. It will be good for Halloween! And you can keep it there to scare sales people forever. :shifty::shifty:

Funny....I am positive that I bought your cat lantern at a yard sale this past Saturday in Deland, Florida. One of the reasons that I bought it was because I have never seen one and it didn't look like a cheap Chinese reproduction. It took skill to blow that glass in there like that! I love buying stuff and then researching it, that is the only way you learn. Best $9 I've spent at a yard sale in a while. This is going into my collection to enjoy.

Hahaha yes indeed you did get this from me on Saturday !! what a small world!! That was one of the items that I really didn't want to let go but had to "clean house" so to speak, but I'm so happy it went to a great home. It is a very cool cat. I'm glad you like it. Happy hunting!

What a connection - did Google search strike again, for Harleymanbruce to find this older thread?

Hey - more Central Floridians! Tyeldom - Deland is a great little town, had a childhood friend who moved there, and a couple of other friends who attended Stetson. The ex and I always used to hit a fun downtown Irish bar whenever we were up that way (good food too) - do you know my old friend J.R., the Orange City silver dealer?

Hi Cheryl! You must be a central Floridian too! Most everyone has never heard of Deland, LOL. I don't know J.R.
Funny though, I know the Irish place you are speaking of, but have never been there....scratching my head on that one, because I can't believe I have never been there. Whats wrong with me?:bucktooth: I will definitely make a point to go there soon.:shame:

I'm on the North side of Orange Co. (Lee Rd/I-4), but grew up in South Seminole, used to be a quick trip to New Smyrna and other parts of Volusia - in the old days, before the traffic became so awful. Used to make a regular antique run down 17-92, through Sanford and into Deland, but haven't made it in a few years now, gas prices made me cut back on much of my traveling. Had to make a run up to Tavares and Eustis for personal reasons a couple of weeks ago, saw some places on the way that looked interesting, so may have to make a Lake Co. run soon - been ages since I've gone past Mt. Dora.

Haven't been to that Irish bar in maybe 5 years, looks like they closed and the location has reopened as a fancy beer bar (still full-liquor and food though) - would have to wonder if it has the same atmosphere now...

Nice to know I have a close neighbor on the antiques board! :cat:
Still, I need to go to that restaurant. Seems like we always go out of town to eat, I don't know why. There are several places right here in town that I really need to try sometime.
