Actually I thought that this was a sharing of information forum and not a 'pricing' venue ?? .. Joy.

We all know that threads posted very often ask for some indication of value for items, in addition to descriptive info. I see estimates of what 'brown furniture' would fetch if sold in the home area of various members given from time to time and other off the cuff estimates of value now & then. Anytime we opine on whether a posted item is or isn't worth the price, we're pretty much doing the same thing. For myself, I was not taking lpan's comments on what an item would currently sell for in the Seattle area as anything like a formal appraisal, just a sharing of personal knowledge, nothing out of line.

Thanks! Yes, I believe I stay well in line of site policy. And I only tell prices that I am very familiar with based on my local Seattle markets and U.S. based websites where I research prices often. I believe people asking for help here because they wish to know authenticity, age and value. Anyone is welcome to give their personal opinions on these three aspects, any opinions are for reference only because antique prices vary widely even in the same market.

So far I have found many of your answers to be helpful.
Although you could preface your valuations with a comment that this is your opinion, or "in the Seattle area this item might sell for".

New members coming to the board, don't know our personalities, so curt responses may not be understood. A little more subtlety might be good.

But do carry on. It is nice to have some one able to read and translate what we can not. Thank you.

I think things have gone a bit awry here. This is simply a mass-produced, decorative item that one member opined might be around $20. No need to say “bite me.” Nothing is gospel. No harm, no foul.

I agree. I must say, I was a bit taken aback at first too. It takes a while to see through that and realise that the intention is good.

    Peace everyone?
