    Hello
Some of you may know how I love old candlesticks as I post about them a lot (hope not too much)
I bought this candlestick in Prague yesterday. The seller did not know English, all he told me :Kastel (which means church in Czech language and I believe it came from a church). The item is 78 sm,made of wood, lots of patterns which may be some symbols or just decoration
Do you have any idea when this item could have been made?style, geography or anything about it?
    Thank you very much
    your help means a lot for me p.jpg pp.jpg ppp.jpg pppp.jpg ppppp.jpg pppppp.jpg ppppppp.jpg

Very pretty! Did you buy it at an antique store in Prague or a flea market?

sure,I have visited all Prague antique stores, some of them look very posh but they are VERY expensive (items starting from 1500 Euro). One,opposite the hotel Paris is nice(expensive).I bought my item on Havelska street in one of the Gothic-style passages next to havelska Trziste (long, wooden souvenir shop line).I took a pic of my item with the owner, you may recognize him if you get there (see the pic below) Havelska.jpg

Much earlier, at least 19th century. Fid means monasteries and convents btw, in cloisters they would be too exposed to the elements.
It is a classic West and Central European church candlestick, just like the Dutch ones you showed in another thread.
By the 1950s these were already being thrown out as old rubbish. No respect for history. In the 60s they were bought cheaply from junkyards by Hippies. They looked very nice in eclectic Hippie style interiors.
This is a very nice one.

hard to say. should be looked at by a specialist. what did you pay ? there are newer copies for sure, but in wood and probably repainted it's hard.

    Pleasure, Nick.
    A pair always looks good.
It is perfectly ok if you put it in your house. These were made to burn candles and look beautiful, and I am sure you will do that purpose justice.

This looks genuinely very old (not only gold gilt itself but wormholes, small cracks, metal hood ect). I paid 60 Euro for it
