Help Identifying Ring

A friend of mine is trying to identify this ring. It was his Grandfather's. I would say 50 years old?

Any marking on the inside of the shank could help.

 

50 years ago was 1970ish. Would have been a bit old-fashioned at that date. Additional photographs would be of help.

Initial "signet" rings are still sold today in many styles,with onyx and a variety of synthetic stones.

 

For what it's worth, I know 'cigar band' shaped rings were stylish 1930-40s. While rings of the general sort are still made, this one looks vintage to me.

 

We thought of the "signet" ring also, but his name did not have the letter "A" associated with it.

 

1930s-1940s date very likely. And signet ring, despite his name.

Well... My husband's grandfather had a couple of signet rings with initials that were not his - he'd won the rings in poker games!
