Featured An unusual porcelain pen holder for discussion please

    I really don't think it's January (in French.) If you click to expand the second picture, you can see 4 letters, the third has a dot above - i. I stand by Juin for June.

    it's definitely Juin. There was some stuff with Auguste Saxe Coburg, I think.

    Think it is a letter from Papa, Auguste (good name for a bear) to Mama.

    What is the other mark about?

    The fact that the slippers are flats, makes me think the figure is male.

    No need to apologize, you can't follow every thread.:) In fact I just stumbled upon that one after all the messy stuff had already happened. It was a thread involving someone who is known for comments that shouldn't be posted in polite company.

    This was my thought. The baby bear called Auguste is handing his Papa (French for dad) some sort of card (likely in the form of a letter) with his birthday date on it along with some flowers.

    This would probably have been a significant birthday, perhaps a 50th, which could date the piece to 1895 if the figurine was specially commissioned as a birthday present.. a pen holder likely being a typical sort of present to give.
