I didn't quite understand you, Ownedbybear, what hot pins? Who is stupid enough to ruin a good looking piece (even faux) of amber with a hot pin just to know if it is real?! It is nonsense for me, as if it was indeed real amber is would be ruined and if it was not it would be again ruined so what is the difference then?! You have a ruined piece anyway no matter real or faux. No sense at all.

 

here...on occasion....we get new members who believe using the hot pin test....is a smart way to check an unknown material......!

Thanks Nathalie! Maybe not the right place but just to tell you that my heart is with your people! I volunteer here at a refugee centre and have Ukrainian friends, you are amazing, honestly. Speaking to them I realise that there are more similarities between Bulgarian and Ukrainian than Bulgarian and Russian.
B.t.w. there is a minority from Bulgarian origin in Ukraine, some of them came here. I hear that they have good chances to receive citizenship on this ground, if they want, of course.

I often wonder that myself.

One of the main reasons Germany was helped was that politicians learned from the past. The rise of Hitler was in no small part down to punitive measures taken after WW1. Even the UK, which was in awful shape after WW2 gave aid. And I deeply admire the fact that Germany teaches its history fully. Other nations could and should learn from that.

Your point about the US not being occupied or colonised or basically living under attack is a good one. I think it explains isolationism well. I am boggled that some right wing pundits are so pro Putin.

Don't get me started on US healthcare and pharma.
