    Hello,

I've just bought this bracelet yesterday.. after cleaning it, I tested it with jewelry solution and it test as sterling, but I'm not sure if it's just sterling plated or not. Unmarked, non magnetic. I even scrapped (scratched) one of the brown spots that are on the interior and the color underneath seems to stay the same (it doesn't look very finished on the interior, so I thought I can do no harm)... It's over 73 grams, which makes me think it's too heavy for just sterling..
    Any other tests ? Thank you for any ideas ! :) IMG_4197.JPG IMG_4198.JPG IMG_4199.JPG

People should throw away their magnets and use other methods. If it were magnetic would you just put it in the trash? Platinum can be magnetic and it can also be a platinum magnet.Your piece was cast, the model being wax which was probably melted around a tube.Whoever made it was sloppy, they cut the sprues and left the cut ends instead of filing them smooth, the edges can be sharp.

Why would you think it's too heavy for silver? If it was made in 2001 the silver in your piece would have cost about $16.

Thank you for all the information, Hollyblue !
I had no idea that platinum can be magnetic and I didn't even think from a 2001 year perspective; I think I was expecting it to be lighter and thinner, somehow.. but I agree, it's not very well done and on top of that it's slightly out of round, so I can't even put it on my wrist to see if I want to keep it.... :(

I have a similar piece that tested positive for sterling... It's actually a pendant meant to hang from one of the narrower ends, but I'd love to have a pin added to wear horizontally, as shown below. As ambiguous as it is, I like it.

I like your bracelet, but as @Hollyblue said, not finished very well on the interior, which could be fixed but should have been finished properly before casting.

Nice bangle, Xristina, I like the Modernist style. I agree with the others, the inside is not professionally finished, maybe a home silversmith?
I think that is just fine for a sterling bangle like that.

Nice piece, @scoutshouse.. I would wear it more as a brooch than as a pendant too !
Thank you, everybody for all your help ! My plan now is take it to a jeweler to fix it on the interior and make it round again.. maybe it will fit me then.. :)

I think the OP's bracelet is homebrew silver, maybe even from a jewelry class.

Something of the sort, or possibly someone in a real class messing about with lost wax.

At today's silver price, silver metal clay price would be around $200.Casting from actual sterling casting grain would be about $45.The cut off nubs from sprue cast are visible on the inside of the bracelet.

Jivvy the research is my favorite

I think there are more home jewelry makers than people realize (including casting precious metals).

I wear a cast ring my husband made in this century, rockhound jewelry my dad made in the 1970s, and enameled copper earrings that my mom made in the 1950s.
