Is anyone able to please help guess the age of this unmarked decanter and perhaps where it was made? The line (seen most close up in the 4th image) is a green swirl in the glass.

    Thanks a lot :) ~Jess

I'd be looking at Scandinavia. I say that because I've had a number of Scandi decanters with that sort of pull cork. The handle is often called celery. I'll have a look in the new Decanter book.

    Thanks for the information :)

I would love to see some images of glasswear with similar corks, the cork to this bottle fits perfectly snug, very satisfying :)

I'll look through some Scandinavian glass to see if I can find any similarities. My instinct told me British but I am far from an expert.

Any clue to the age? I'm guessing Victorian but I could be very wrong.

    Cheers.

I didn't know the handle name. A quick search for celery handle brings up a lot of Whitefriars pieces which doesn't really match, although the handles look very similar. I can see a few Victorian pieces with very similar celery handles too though.

The handle is called "Reeded" by those who know what it's called. Celery is an attempt to make it fancy.

Celery is what it's been called by collectors in the UK for a great many decades. Indeed, I do believe Whitefriars used it in their literature and it's in Hajdamach's books.

Kosta Boda Rhapsody decanter with a similar stopper.
