    Hi All,
A couple more musical pieces I need help with.
    Any information appreciated
    thanks for looking:)
#1 hard wood flute, heavy for the size 9 1/4"L 324g or 11oz, 2 holes in the middle, a hole on each end. What type of flute is this, what kind of wood?

#2, South America would be a good guess; souvenir-quality; I'm guessing the scale is not a conventional western scale (that is, it might not sound in tune to western ears).
#1, I don't think is a flute, but I don't know what it might be.

thanks all_fakes:) I though souvenir, ones of those items you buy while on holiday and then never look at again.
lol, I was wondering how it would work, so probably not a flue:)

#1 looks to me more like a handle/pull for some kind of cord.

thanks komokwa:) Ironwood makes sense, now to figure out what it is.
    Yup, I agree:)
thanks Bronwen:) maybe a handle, anything is possible at this point. There isn't any sign of wear/rubbing from rope in the holes, maybe had never been used?

Ironwood, that's a little hard to know why, what kind of ironwood since there's a couple hundred types of trees and bushes called ironwood. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ironwood

Could be the cord really didn't have to slide once it was threaded through. It's pretty big though. Just out of curiosity, can you get any sound out of it if you use the center as the mouthpiece?

well thank-you Bronwen for asking about sound:) I hadn't tried it but thought I better, and yes, it makes a sound! Kind of neat, you put your mouth into the centre part and shift the side of your face/mouth to blow out one side or the other. You can block and or partially block the end to give a different sound. So maybe not a flute but some sort of instrument - or if not an instrument it should be. lol, I tried this in the dining room and my one dog came out to see what was going on, then when I went to the living room the 2 cats that had been sound asleep in front of the fire were both sitting up wide-eyed, wondering what that strange sound was:)

This is just an observation, and by no means should be considered anything other than that, but the size and finish of the first item make me think more of some sort of duck, or animal, call.

That would make sense if you can get some kind of noise out of it, but it might take a "specialist" to make it sound like whatever it is it might attract. I wouldn't think any kind of duck/bird/goose, but there are a lot of different kinds of animal calls.

I collect different types of whistles/ocarinas/tribal flutes, so sometimes run across other things that make noise. All I can positively say is I have one of the second items, (which was identified as a Serbian "frula," or flute), and the first item isn't a flute!

Thank-you Taupou:) it could very well be some sort of animal call, I'll see what I can find.

CX, you could always go outside, away from the house, and try it - just wait to see who/what shows up!

lol, that could be fun:) maybe the elusive Sasquatch will show up, supposedly they have been spotted a couple of hours south of me
