Enjoy and absorb the cursive writing on that, yes, black board. You will never see it again in a 'school'. :(
"Where do I sign this legal document? Here? Ok... 'X' How's that?" :banghead:

    This is flawed.
No one is saying that children can't spell their names, just that fewer and fewer of them use cursive.
Just because it isn't in cursive doesn't mean it isn't legally signed.
(Actually, even using an "X" is legal, as long as it is witnessed. :))

I like this photo of photos collection idea Fig. (<I trust Fig is ok to use?) While I look for photos having to do with the US Navy; ships, males and females in Navy uniforms and children as well, and other subjects, you might find these genres interesting.
I love photos that include our flag anywhere any time but also a very elusive subject of which I have but few, blue and/or gold star flags hanging in a window or wherever.

Is it? They aren't being taught this anymore. This is my point. I know signing that way is legal. So it always has been. :)

And my point is that just because they don't use cursive, doesn't mean they will use a "X". :)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Yes, Fig is o.k. to use. We know each other well enough now. Can I call you King?:happy::happy:

I think it would be great for people to post some from their collections in this Ephemera and Photographs forum. Generally I have only posted ones about which I have questions. Maybe I'll post more here about which I don't have questions. It's just that I think people like to try finding answers here.

I find myself drawn to the flags and try to date the photo by them especially old boyscout parade photos.

And I noticed that I forgot my grammar in the previous post, and wrote "Can I" instead of "May I." I hope that kentworld didn't see that. :cat:

I don't think I've seen that person as yet but I try to resist the impulse as such things jump off the page and slap me. It just happens. ;)

Generally I notice such things also... when other people write them. :angelic:

But I don't correct other people, since I'm often negligent in regard to checking my own grammar in online forum posts.

If you know of Tom Clancy the author, he wrote military genre including The Hunt for Red October, he continued to use the incorrect term; 'jury-rigged' until, he passed away. The correct term is 'Jerry-rigged'. This refers to the Germans using whatever they had at the end of WWII. The other is a far different thing indeed.

I keep telling people that and they think I'm an idiot. Honestly some people are just incredibly stupid.

    Hi,
If it wasn't for spell check people would think I am "illerate". Of course here we do not have spell check so I just blame it on being old.

I say it's just a family group of a trio of sisters. Mom and Dad (photos in back) have passed and they're reminiscing. They'd be in deep black if it was mourning.

Ye gods, the Victorians and their propensity for excess. Yards and yards of fabric, everything with a different pattern. I had that ball & claw foot plant table in front of the window, but my daughter took it when she bought a house. I bought a lamp with a ratty, fabric draped shade like that when I had my store, but had to dispose of the shade because the fabric was disintegrating every time you moved it.

Also, the drapery on Mom's picture would have been black if she recently died. Note in Fig's photo, there is a frame with small pictures on the wall with a gauzy fabric around it. I wonder why the woman in the photo is hiding behind the lamp.

Just noticed in the OPs photo the large shell on the floor lower right. I guess my Victorian décor isn't quite out of my system because I have one I inherited from my great-aunt which is on a small, ornate, 3-legged stool in my living room.

    >large shell on the floor lower right.<

I hadn't noticed the shell. I can remember back in the 1940s of several homes of my grandparents friends - those of their age group, having a big conch shell laying around. I always thought it was a strange item for a living room because it never fitted in with the furnishings' scheme; however, I thought the furnishings always looked way to busy.

    >Also, the drapery on Mom's picture would have been black if she recently died.<

Agree on the color. If it had been like a year the color of the cloth could have progressed to white. The Victorian's did use white decorations, etc. at some funerals especial those for infants and children. Q. Vic requested a white funeral.

"She had also wanted a white funeral and so the gun carriage was pulled by eight white horses."

The "color of cloth lightened as mourning went on, to grey, mauve and white."

    >I say it's just a family group of a trio of sisters. Mom and Dad (photos in back)<

Probably, though I think the woman in the chair is quite a bit older than the other 2. I think it is mother and 2 daughters. The large pic of the woman looks very much like the woman seated. They could be one and the same though the pic may be her at a younger age without so much facial aging. Hmmmm.... before the wear, tear and worrying of children!
