I am on the other side of Jersey of Skeezix, Marko is on my side but further south. Toms River around me is noted for having the largest batch of retirement villages outside of Florida. Few yard sales and estate sales around are a waste of time. They are so expensive and you see the same damn items, they just move from house to house.

I'm in north central Connecticut. We do OK in the estate sale department, and things do turn up at yard sales, but you have to keep your eyes peeled. There are too many kiddie and Ikea disposal sites. Where I do best is Judaica; there are two synagogues in town, and three in the next town over. Those sales and the estate sales of older folks who went there tend to be gold mines.

 

We have a fair amount of estate sales every week, but only one flea market, which comes once a month. I've never found anything at all at the flea market. There are a bunch of antiques stores around but everything is overpriced and usually boring stuff, the usual that you see everywhere. We don't do winter weather down here, so from December-March there are NO yard sales and the estate sales seem to have their worse/most boring sales during this time. The flea market here is extremely overpriced....Mike Wolfe (American Picker) lives about 5 miles from me and people tell me that he sometimes sells at the flea market....you know he's not giving stuff away!

 

There will be more than I can handle soon, and more than I can get to...but sure been a loooong winter for all. I usually hit the poorer parts of town because Johnson County are too proud of their China junque and new jewelry
But there is a couple of established communities that are gooood Lakewood and Hyde Park have both turned up some goodies. Lakewood is a HUGE upscale are 2,000 residents and deals galore, I was just getting started last year and had to go to work, not this year....Im shoppin
Here is a pretty tray I bought last year, never posted with Mount fuji, I think it was 5 or 7 buckers

 

This 18th C. teabowl and saucer was $1 (yup, one dollar, not BS'in you).

The beads look like they might be Obsidian. (snowflake Obsidian)

The beads and rings both have what appear to be Arabic inscriptions (the white you're seeing within the beads).

I picked up the bowl first and said "how much?" the vendor's reply was "$0.50 and the matching dish is around here somewhere, you can have both for a $1".

 

More likely Sanskrit, if they're Buddhist. The prayer beads definitely are. And congrats on the tea bowl; I couldn't see what the other one sold for but I'm guessing it was more than $11.(LOL)

I picked up this 'Thank-you for your war service' letter and (thanks to nuff for figuring out what it is) a Chinese tablet. Very interesting item!

PS: This is the little 17th C one I grabbed a while back, and later found a saucer for. About the same price as the blue and white!

 

Very nice, Bear! I have a similar decorated one purchased last year with the matching saucer.

Below are some recent finds...

Blue Sancai glazed waterpot, small cylindrical carved seal and a white glazed seal paste box. One has a hand-written label on base that reads 18th C., but I have my doubts.

The other two are circa 1930s/40s Japanese abacus.

 

Very good finds cxgirl and Nuff! Cxgirl, you really find some neat things! Good luck with that Chinese item....looks good! Nuff, that white teabowl and saucer is TDF! And only a dollar. Insane in the membrane that sellers will sell this stuff so cheaply sometimes...wish it happened more often to me!
