    Hi all,
After posting about the duck clapper and learning how to use it I had another look at this piece - maybe this is also an instrument?
Carved from a branch, I don't know the wood, 26"L, the stick is 15"L and I think you clap/hit it inside the bottom of the mouth.
    Any information appreciated.
    thanks for looking:)

No idea. Does it make a tone like a polynesian log drum or slit drum when you tap the sides of the lips? Looks like American folk art with the moustache and buck teeth. Is that bamboo root?

thank-you for all the replies folks:) so it is an instrument!
yes, it makes a sound when I hit it with the stick - more of a deep tone as compared to the duck clapper which was a clear, sharp sound (hope that makes sense)

will check out bamboo root instruments and see if I can find others:)

    lol, me too johnny:)

Knowing what it is made from is a big help, so using bamboo root to search I was able to find this, taken from a dead pinterest link - will keep searching for more
    thanks for your help folks:)
The ‪#‎Indian‬ ‪#‎Instrument‬ - ‪#‎Toka‬. Toka is a popular and easily available musical instrument used in Assamese folk (Bihu) Music. Toka is made of Bamboo, and bamboo being the most common produce of the forests of Assam, it is used abundantly by Assamese folk musicians

Slit drums are found in a lot of cultures, so I'd think it could come from anywhere bamboo root is available; and a search for "slit drum carved face" came up with a UK importer who apparently has sold carved bamboo-root faces for wall hangings, listing as "carved face Bali wall hanging"

And alibaba sells carved bamboo-root faces, apparently from Viet Nam, though I don't see any with the slit-drum feature.

For sure it is a musical/percussion slit drum; hard to say where it was made though.
Complicating the google searching is the fact that a lot of websites might not refer to such things as a slit drum; that is a fairly technical term, and this isn't what most people would think of as a "drum." So indeed it is easy to find bamboo root carved faces, harder to find exactly comparable items.
