    Hello
    I live in England and I purchased this antique chair from a seller in England almost a year ago. Can you please try to determine the chair's age? Please see the seller's photos below.

    This is the seller's description;
    "Baluster turned legs to the front and to the rear with turned stretchers to the front, side and centre. Panelled seat. Simple block stretcher to the rear. Column and baluster turned uprights with five shaped slats with S scroll carving to the base and crest rail. Turned urn finials to the uprights. Pegged mortice and tenon joints throughout"

    Measurements:
    Height: 45" (115cm)
    Seat height: 15" (38cm)

    Condition:
    "Lacking original feet, and later brackets bracing the underside and rear of the seat. One panel in the seat a later replacement. S scroll terminal broken and repaired on the crest rail and one finial a later replacement"

    I think we've all done a great job. I've checked online for many examples on 17th century-high back chairs, and have seen many of them are quite similar to mine, especially the carving

    Could be a Carolean chair to me. Late 19th or early 20th if it's not later 17th century .

    What makes you say that? I strongly believe it was made in the late 17th century. All the evidence points to that. But I want to see what other people think

    It appears to be like a William and Mary banister chair. Originally would have had an upholstered cushion. Likely part of a dining set.
    Its clearly very old and definitely seen better days. Good luck.
