I was curious as to whether day beds (in general) were used during the 17th century. Found this helpful information on the internet.

So it was used. I have seen a couple of other examples of 17th-century day beds and they do look similar to what I posted

If you are local, I recommend inspecting the "day bed" in person.

Check the saw marks: Adze, Axe, or Saw Cut Marks on Lumber Indicate Building Age & Wood Cutting Methods (inspectapedia.com)

Check the nails (if any): nail-chronology.pdf (npshistory.com)

Check to make sure the nails and saw marks match the purported age. Anything out of place may indicate the bed has been repaired or is newer than expected.
