vintage german propaganda posters

hi all

these were an unexpected find in a massive roll of vintage posters, mostly music, film etc

they are clearly not originals but, must have some age

didnt feel right to include all the graphics, as i wouldnt want to offend anyone

one is of a very sinister looking german soldier surrounded by flags

the other is very strange, a black soldier in green military get up

wondering when and why these were reproduced and about the company who produced them

cant seem to find any like them

any thoughts or insights appreciated

 

There seem to be a few vintage British propaganda examples by her/his majestys stationary office,

But this can't be British propaganda, with German headings ?

I'm very confused, but interested none the less

 

The first is a WWI poster: "Help us win, buy war bonds". Designed by Fritz Erler in 1917, it was the first such German Poster.

The second was a Nazi poster from WWII, "Victory will be ours" (1941). It was designed by Wilhelm Emil "Elk" Eber, who died that same year.

I guess these are just souvenirs from the Imperial War Museum. They are very evocative of the periods they represent.

As they say, (UK printed) "reproduction". One dated 9-'69?

 

I still don't quite understand why these were reproduced though, can't see they were museum souvenirs, doesn't seem seem right

A friend of my really wants them bad, as they are not cheap dot prints, but don't know a right price

 

You can also buy van Gogh's and Rembrandts prints in musea. Night guard (nachtwacht) in A3 or A2 format.

The price? The're not real, so not the real prices.
Reproduction prices, where quality adds.
And these are older, so this adds to.

I have a rare reproduction of Jan Toorop from it's time. That's worth more then a 60/70s revival print, but not even 2% of the worth of an original.

I would say negotiate a price with which both are happy.

Became clear to me already. I was to quick. Why i deleted as irrelevant.

Why sold? As with everything what's produced to be sold. Supply and demand. People want it. Extra turnover for the museum.

 

Idle conjecture: they might have been done for an exhibition of war or propaganda art.

They haven't got anything to do with the museum, that's just where the originals are

They still sell WWI and WWII posters nowadays.

The museum was founded with support by the government, and it wouldn't surprice me if that connection is still alive.

You could contact the museum and ask. At least you could find out if they are standard gift store stock, or can be special ordered.

 

They are all British posters mate, not a swastica in sight
