Fewer and fewer small businesses but enough to go around for them to survive.

 

Here places like that were all closed by rents going sky high years ago, and competition from big box stores. Never mind that you can't get the "right thing" locally any more, or that a shade like yours would still be sitting in a box. There are still some non-chains here but not like it used to be.

 

A new Pet Food Express chain store - pet food/dog grooming and bathing place is opening up near me. Their monthly rent is $40,000 for approximately a half block street frontage. There is a small dog grooming place down the way, who they will put out of business, but the dog bakery will probably survive. With the empty store fronts after COVID, the chains are descending.

Lots of money spent on pets around here.

Otherwise known as Whole Foods for pets??? I was in one today and bought two cups of yogurt and a pint of apple cider. I couldn't afford the other stuff. Pet food is crazy enough in the supermarket.

 

This isn't the only high end pet store in the area. There is the Healthy Spot. No Purina Dog Chow for the local pups.
