    Hi again,

I'm thinking of buying this lovely carving (181cm tall), but haven't a clue where it originates from. Guessing, it may be Polynesian, although to be honest I haven't a clue. Lol

Hoping someone may enlighten me :)

Thanks for taking time to read my thread.

    Kind regards

She is Balinese. She represents Dewi Sri, the Goddess of fertility and abundance. Her left arm has grown into a rice ear, the very first rice on earth, to feed the people. She is also associated with birds, hence the bird on top of her hair.
Stylistically speaking she is Bali Art Deco, but later than our Art Deco.
She could do with some tlc, after which the wood will have a deeper, darker look.

Indonesia is the bridge between Asia and the Pacific in many ways, including culturally, so you were not very far off.;)

Thank you so much, your knowledge never ceases to amaze me! :) I do like her, so if the price is right, I may take the plunge. What would you consider a fair price to pay?

The subject is charming, but the quality of the carving is poor. If you aren't absolutely in love with her, I would wait until a better quality one comes along.;)

Different subject, but also Balinese, this is a better quality (mine, but seller's pics):

You can see that his arm and face are smooth, no cutting angles like on the chest of Dewi Sri:
