Featured Portrait of lady hamilton

Can you please tell who the author is, and what century is the portrait?

 

How big is it? Is it painted on porcelain?

No measurements given, I'll bet the oval with the portrait is around 2 1/2 inches plus or minus. It does look like porcelain, but not impossible its painted on a thin layer of ivory.

Late 1800s/early 1900s, maybe?

OP, please confirm measurements.

It is a pretty piece and I think would easily find a buyer.

 

@SSlava, can you give the measurements, IN its frame please?? It's VERY pretty!!! I'm thinking to my eye it looks more like porcelain, but only the first image is slightly enlargeable.........

 

Signature looks to be Wagner.

Yes, it is an art painting on porcelain. Thank you, as I understand it, this is Wagner manufactory?

These artists seem to be itinerant Americans painting in the U.S. around the mid-19thC (from that link). Wagner is a fairly common name. I suspect this was done by some other Wagner.

I'm not finding any references at all to a Lady Hamilton Powell.

 

I noticed a similarity in the signature, but the point about being American does make sense. I should learn how to read one of these years

 

IMHO, the American Wagners have nothing to do with the porcelain portrait of Lady Hamilton posted by SSlava
Quite certain the Wagner signature is related to the link you gave

And that the piece is Austrian plaque

 

If it's meant to be Lady Emma Hamilton, as I would think it was, seen through a late Victorian lens.

Something else that may need clarification on the first link that I posted is, Royal Vienna, or Vienna Porcelain, also refers to a style of porcelain painting that became popular in the late 19th and early 20th century. From what I've read, there was no single manufacturer called Royal Vienna at that particular time

I agree. The subject, style of painting, and location are all very European.
The American Wagners painted in a recognizably American style, with that slightly naive touch that was fashionable in North America at the time. It is different from European painting of the period.

 

This thing is kept by my friend. I do not know where he got this item from)). I also think that most likely Europe is of the end of the 19th, beginning of the 20th centuries. It is possible that Prussia?

 

Some of them seem to have been made by the 'Königliche Porzellan Manufaktur' in Berlin, which was the capital of Prussia at the time.
This one doesn't seem to have a factory mark, but could have been made in one of the German lands. It is a beauty, by the way.

 

Any chance you could borrow it from your friend and never return it?
