    Hi all,

I’m trying to identify the artist of a painting that I recently purchased and wonder if anyone could please help me.

By way of brief background, I purchased a different painting recently in an auction and unbeknownst to me this picture was also included in the lot. Over the last few weeks, it’s started to grow on me and but unfortunately, despite the signature, I’ve been unable to work out who the artist is. The painting is a good-sized oil on canvas. There is a signature and date on the lower left and also on the back there is a stamp on the frame which reads “25cm fratrukket”.

I’ve attached a photo of the painting, a close-up of the signature and a picture of the back.

Any suggestions, ideas etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and any help.

Well, the general scene struck me as central or south American at first glance, but the internet says the language on the stretcher is Norwegian. Certainly not Norway, is it? Not tropical either. So I'll leave it there for others.

    That sounds Danish.
The house isn't Danish though, it looks Turkish to me.

I've been watching Seaside Hotel (in Danish with English subtitles.) I don't recommend it as a way to learn the language. ;)

Bear in mind that most factory paintings are shipped without stretchers so the stamp on the stretcher might only indicate where it was framed and not where it was painted.

A more upmarket version of a traditional Turkish house:

Looks like you found it, Roaring.
I can't remember a house like it on the Croatian coast, but I've never been to Poreč.

    Hi all,

Thanks so much for all your help, it's certainly the house in the painting. Hopefully, this will lead me to finding the artist.

    Thanks again,

    Andrew
