    Hi all Antiquers!
First, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU:singing::kiss::joyful:

Here is my first 2019 buy:happy:
Not in my hands yet, described as carved wood , but I can see no grain on the bottle itself, thinking the stopper may be hard wood.
    Dimension, 6cm (2.1/3") high 3cm (1.1/4") wide.
Full of old grime, wondering if I'll "taste":p it before it got a bath;):D

I wonder if it could be turtleshell, amber or horn:rolleyes:, material seems to have some translucence from the seller's pics:peeking::cyclops:.
    What is your opinion?
    Of course, I'll update after getting the piece in hand:joyful: Resized_20190104_112442.jpg Resized_20190104_112532.jpg Resized_20190104_112627.jpg Resized_20190104_112823.jpg Resized_20190104_112919.jpg Resized_20190104_113013.jpg Resized_20190104_113213.jpg Resized_20190104_113249.jpg 8

    I'm going for red resin.

Wait till you have it in your hand. Right now I think Stephen is right, resin made to look like horn or Burmese amber, possibly with a wooden stopper.:sorry:
But you could come with some brilliant revelation once you have it. Especially after you've tasted it.:playful:

The Chinese have been making resin lookalike bottles resembling horn and Burmese amber for some time. They often come with dark wooden stoppers.

Of course, resin is a big probability, still don't know if the pin holes are popped bubbles, and this wood stopper isn't appropriate for a "precious" material:smuggrin:
Nothing better than a good mystery to begin the year, and loving the subject, I had to take a bet;)
Thanks Miscstuff and AJ for your input:kiss:

You never know, it could have been an interim solution to a pressing problem. But more likely a faux bottle with appropriate stopper.
Love to hear your follow up when it has arrived.:)

Ha! While googling for other examples...
    I caught that:

Though it was described as "ANTIQUE CHINESE HAND CARVED BIRDS AND DEER DESIGN ON WOOD SNUFF BOTTLE" @Lecollectionneur will recognize a 1800's corozo "secouette" featuring the La Fontaine's tale of "la cigogne et le renard" aka the stork and the fox:hilarious:

    2.40"H 2.4"W 0.45"D.

Also a snuff bottle, but European rather than Chinese. Very nice folk art, kyra.

Even if you don't know the fable (which we in the Low Countries also know:)), the screw stopper is a giveaway as to the Occidental origin.;) So are the cartouche and the urn-shape of the stopper.

Wondering if it might not be a seed pod of some kind.
But also wondering if it could be resin.

Will be interesting to see what it looks like once you've washed all the dust off.

    Update:
    RESIN
Just arrived, I only brushed the dust and looking through my loupe...
Here are the clues for resin!
Tiny blobs in some places, which aren't carved nor part of the decor! Resized_20190108_114517.jpeg Resized_20190108_114841.jpg anyway, cheap and pleasing, so I advised the seller with pics for the identification clues only for his information and won't ask for a discount or return :angelic::)
Thanks to all for commenting and... identifying the material:)

Sad, but that was to be expected. At least it wasn't expensive, and it is nice in its own way.

Sometimes you take a bet and find an absolute treasure, sometimes not. But without betting you would never find that treasure.:)
