Hi! My mom’s had this horse since the early 70’s- not wood, I assume fiberglass or something similar. Hollow inside. Any clue if this is considered a carousel horse? If not, what category would I place it under? Thnks in advance!

Hi @HellyR and WELCOME to ANTIQUERS!! Although you didn't mention size, which would be most helpful!, I believe we're looking at a goat, maybe mountain goat from some sort of display.... others may be more precise than myself!! Here it is full size, which it is always helpful to post images at by clicking on the VERY TOP image when you post!! I've got it this time!!
If it were on a Carousel, it should have a hole just in front of the blanket and down in front of the girth underneath!!

Then maybe a "fantasy" creation!! Although it looks like there's a 'drawn' if not lightly carving in the front of each hoof...........just clarifying the image to show what I mean........I did NOT touch the hooves....it's just the clarifying that the program did!!

Don't carousel horses have a hole where the pole goes?

Yes they should, AJ. That's what Aquitaine was asking in Post 2, but she got no answer.

Well it looks to me like the feet are molded to the base, so I think it was always meant to be simply a sculpture. "Maybe" a replica of a carousel animal. There might be a signature or a maker's mark on it somewhere.

It would be nice to have a picture of the entire head without the horns cut off. Better lighting would be nice also.:)

I think goats were used as pack animals, cart pullers and ridden by children all over the world for centuries.

Here it is from a different angle- this pic was taken later in the day, hence the ‘gold’ tone. It’s true color is silver- like the original pic posted. It does not have a hole, so I know it’s not an authentic carousel piece- more like a replica. ‍♀️ Just trying to figure out the best place for her to sell it? A site that focuses on carousel animals (and the like) or a ‘general’ antique site? Thanks for everyone’s help! F1F1F1CE-085B-4CFE-9E03-3BADB81CCE39.jpeg

Not sure what to make of it. To me it’s a borderline mythical beast. Also I won’t think carousel at all and would sell it as a ‘vintage’ collectible or interesting decor piece.

Where did your mom get it? Could it not be some kind of prop for video game or fantasy series premiere?

She bought it in 1972 at a small random store in NJ..
