While it took too much money and materials from 4 suppliers, I finally got around to framing "The Charge" watercolor by Stanley L Wood last week. Thought I would create a thread for feedback. What do you think about the aperture and aperture core colors? Does the presentation work? Would you change anything?

Also the painting was originally glued to a larger piece of paper. After removing it from the paper I discovered some scribbles, a number, and a note (presumably from the artist) on the back that appears to say "5-3/8 wide Captain". Do you think this was #194 in a series?

    Materials:

    -Antique walnut frame
    -8 ply archival aperture
    -Archival mount
    -Mounting with archival mounting strips
    -92% UV filtering museum glass

    Thank you in advance!

Looks like an illustration for a book or some such.

Very dramatic. Think dimensionality of the frame and matting adds immediacy to the image. What color is the mat? Is that a true black?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Wood seems to like his 'bold, strong action'!!! I like your framing, @techbiker!!!

Hi Debora, the matting is actually Crescent brand 8 ply conservation grade in black color. I believe the black is closer to a "Jet Black" than true black. The color of the core is also more of an off-white than a true white. Custom Matboards - 8x10 White Matboard (Copy) - Matboard and More

Thank you very much for the links. Do you think the main figure in my painting is Captain Kettle himself? He has a similar beard and mustache in other illustrations. I need to read some of the stories.

Wood definitely had a skill for painting action illustrations. Really fascinating reading that he didn't like painting ships!

    Thanks again everyone

Don't think it's meant to be Captain Kettle. He was a good guy and pirates typically aren't.
