I thought GSD but it also reminds me of another breed I can't quite call to mind. Is it a c1930s brooch/tie pin/cravat pin/stock pin? Thank you.
That's what I thought. Maybe Malinois (French for Mechels, the original name), a Belgian Shepherd variety?
I think a shepherd too. My friends Malinois has much larger ears and muzzle, much like a giant German Shepherd on steroids!
Yes, they are big. I like that dark face they have. My favourite Belgian shepherd is the Tervuren variety, which has longer hair, and a dark ruff as well as the dark face.
Yes her Malinois is big and very protective, recently chased off a trespasser came inside of her home in the night! :O I looked up the Tervuren variety, yes, I've seen them before, scary looking protectors.
Would have been a common breed when tie clip made. According to the internet, German Shepards were one of the most popular because of Rin Tin Tin. Debora
Yes, I also watched the 50s TV show. The original Rin Tin Tin died in 1932. Susan Orlean published a wonderful biography of him - Rin Tin Tin: The Life and Legend.
I'd think it's supposed to be a GSD as well... My brother's GSD/Malinois mix on the right, at left, the young Malinois he gave our cousin - she is his heroine, alerting him right before a tornado hit his house a few months ago, saving him from serious injury or death: ~Cheryl
Your friend's Malinois would be unusual, the Belgian Shepherds are typically a bit leaner in both body and head than German Shepherds: ~Cheryl
