Hi, hoping someone can help me identify these items I bought at auction.
The thimble is marked 900 and GK and has an enamel panel with an Egyptian design. I've checked my usual sites for countries that use numbers and makers GK but nothing so far.
The teaspoon is marked 800 and depicts the story of the mongoose and the snake. No makers mark. I remember finding a very similar one when I first got it, but I can't find it now. I wonder if anyone can tell me what this style of spoon {with the rattail style join and the gap) is called which might make the research a little easier.
    Thanks in advance

The thimble is most likely German, have seen the mark before, but usually with 800 fineness, not unusual to use higher quality silver with enamel work. Sorry, don't know the maker.

The spoon is Italian, the design based on ancient Roman spoons, I have a couple with snakes, but no little imperiled mouse (am a bit envious)...

I thought that was a mouse rather than a mongoose.

Hi @Dory64, next time if you could please list your "usual sites" it would be great. That way we won't be duplicating your efforts :)

Hi Frank, I've found many variations with rat, mouse, mongoose, snake, serpent & cobra. However there is a fable about a snake and a mongoose, so I assumed it to be related to that.

Thanks so much Cheryl, that gives me something to go on. Any idea what that shape of spoon (where the finial meets the bowl is unusual) is called?

That offset or stepped joint between the bowl and stem is found on ancient cochlear spoons, which have a pointed stem, and on the larger ligula spoons, with tops that are blunt, or have a decorative or figural knop.
