Mystery Chinese Vases

Hi all,
I'm back to the fountain of knowledge, Antiquers - Forums!
You have always come up with the right answers for me in the past, how about this new one!
A very interesting pair of vases that I have just purchased from a friend. A great stamp mark to the base. I wonder what it says?
The vases stand at about 33 cm in height, about 21 cm in width.
Cloisonné? Champlevé?
Please help!

champleve.....to my eye....

I think these are one of those oddities which crop up, Japanese made copies of archaic Chinese vase in bronze and champleve. You can sometimes find them stamped Japan on the base. Inter war period I think. The script is very stylised and I can't make it out, sorry.
