Yes, Egyptian style. The faience pottery scarabs were popular at several time periods, so the back of the brooch is vital to dating it. Such pieces were often set in the UK and European countries rather than in the home country.

Hi, Rish! You'll want to make sure to post all your photographs as Full Image. That will make them easier for everyone to see. (Easy to do. Whe you go to Upload a File, click on Choose File and then Full Image instead of Thumbnail.) And not to worry, all new members do the same thing with their first posts. The central scarab on your piece does lead one to Egypt. But would/could you post a photograph of the back and a close-up of the 1000 and any others marks? They will be helpful for dating and identifying. Also add measurements.

Also it does not say 1000 on mine but I have seen the exact same one on another site that has 1000.

Lovely photographs, by way. Do you have an idea what center mark in back reads?

It is an older brooch / pendant, with that hinge.
Those baby blue glass beads and that type crimped setting are often seen on Egyptian jewellery, but also in a few other countries.
1000 as a silver fineness is not used much. 1000 silver is usually from Japan or India. Maybe 1000 is a manufacturer's code.
Egyptian silver is marked with an assay mark with the name of the town and the fineness in Arabic. There is usually a year letter as well.

Yes I think it is a faded mark that says 1000 as I have seen the exact same brooch on another site. Also the person selling it to me said it tested positive for silver.

Thank you so much.... :) I go this off of Vinted for £10. I thought it looked interesting.

As aj says, older back, it's 20s or 30s. The scarab might be contemporaneous, but it may equally be an ancient one.

Yes, it looks like silver. My guess would be ca 800 fineness.

Ooh, that made my head hurt after the day I’ve had. I’ve just tried to pronounce it three times and I give up.
Word of the day ‘con’….’contempor’…….no,give up, still can’t say it :hilarious:

That could be an 80(0) mark on the bottom. Cat above?

Could be, but it looks to me like a pretty wide-angled Arabic 8, and a munchkin cat.:cat: Maybe someone can tweak the photo?

I am no master tweaker.:shame: I still see a wide-angled Arabic 8, and a munchkin cat. A munchkin Manx cat to be precise, no tail. Also another mark(?) above the munchkin.

I wonder if the Arabic 8 is actually the year letter A, for 1925-26. That date would fit in with the hinge. The cat silver mark (munchkin Manx?) was used from 1906-46.
The other mark could be Alexandria?
