Could you help with dates and origin of a silver pin and cameo necklace?

Round Pin Resize 2.JPG The pin is 2" in diameter, its center stone is cold to the touch, and has a cartouche that just reads silver. I have not yet cleaned it.

The necklace has a trio of, I believe plastic or resin, cameos. Its chain is 14". The clasp has been replaced I think and put in the wrong spot (which I will fix). It's a pretty piece.

Just wondering where these pieces might have originated and how old they are. As always, many thanks for your kind assistance.

The brooch back looks between the wars. I'd have said Chinese export, but the style isn't right to my eye. I suspect it's glass.

I've a bracelet matching that necklace somewhere. Ffities ish.

Thanks Owned! I will test the stone but glass is a good bet. I was wondering if the word silver on back might be a clue to its origin. I don't think its sterling, maybe alpaca? By the way, the word silver is missing the "r". Either mis-struck or worn off I guess.

It may well be silver. Older Chinese export is marked like that, as is some Indian stuff. And indeed, yours is more Indian in style.

Maybe go back and edit the photos so that thumb sized photo of the brooch back shows up full size with the other photos. I think that sort of screen-like backing might be a clue to that piece. I wouldn't worry about the "r" in silver being worn. That kind of thing happens all the time.

You can find other cameo necklaces, search either "three cameo filigree necklace" or "triple cameo filigree necklace".

Both of these are definitely vintage. Very nice pieces! :)

Thanks Lucille, I enlarged the back. I did not realize the front posted twice. Sorry about that.

I'm not seeing Indian. Mesh back is often Chinese, so that is an option, but I am not 100% sure.

It was the mesh back that looked Chinese to me, but the front doesn't.

I can't tell at the angle shown in the photo whether or not the 2 upper cameos are exact mirror images of each other. If they are, then they would be molded. However, from what I can see, think they are all hand carved. Neapolitan cameo cutters could crank these out & would not have cost jewellery manufacturers much to buy in quantity. Frankly, molded cameos generally look better than this. Are the backs at all concave? The pieces are small, so may be subtle.

    @Bronwen

Here are two more pics, closer of the front and back. I can't tell if the backs are concave for sure. Each small oval from the back is only about 1/4". The large one looks possibly concave. I don't think the small ones are exactly the same, but I will let you judge as best you can from pictures. Hope these help.

They look like real cameos, but not very good ones.

You've already got the answer to real vs molded from evelyb & OBB. Suppose it might be 1960s, when both Victorian & gypsy looking jewellery were a fad. No later than that I should think, & possibly 50s, as has already been said.

I'm curious about the clasp. May we see?

Conçur for Chinese! Just tad later than the usual 1930s Chinese Export... 1950s?

The clasp is a spring ring that looks shiny and new. It has been attached to the chain at the two o'clock position and looks like an obvious replacement to me. I will get a picture of it later today to show what I mean.

Stylistically, the brooch is rather like some Arts and Crafts stuff here.

Thank you all for comments and information. It has been so helpful. I appreciate the knowledge you all take the time to share. Here are the pictures of cameo chain and clasp. The spring ring has been placed at the 10 o'clock position, not 2 as I said earlier. And one final question, in your opinion, is this a US piece or European?

Got it. Not as similar as I'd remembered, but this is mine: I'm wondering if there's another somewhere. A72D.jpg A72A.jpg A72B.jpg A72C.jpg
