20220604_090443.jpg 20220604_090510.jpg I picked up this garnet bracelet for $5, and I thought it had Chinese symbols. Upon closer inspection, I found the sterling hallmark. unnamed.png
It is the one on the bottom. 5he bracelet Also has a G in a rectangle, probably because it is goldwashed.
Does anyone know the country of origin for the hallmark? Is it still used today? If not, do you know a time period when it was? Thank you. Posting pics of the bracelet also.

I thought the garnets were nice for Chinese work. Thanks.

At risk of exposing another facet of my ignorance...does 'Bohemian garnets' signify glass? Or some other derogative?

    ;)
On the contrary. Bohemian garnets are high quality garnets that are found in northern Bohemia, now part of the Czech Republic. They have been mined there for ca 600 years, were the stones of European aristocracy, and became very sought after by fashionable ladies of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Bohemian garnets have a high clarity and a high refraction of light, even if they are dark red. @Marko 's bracelet shows both qualities very well.:)

Garnets are my dad's birthstone, so I pick them up. All four of us children were born in June, so I especially love garnet pieces with pearls, the main June birthstone. My mother was born in April, so her's is diamond. I do not yet have a piece with all three birthstones.

What aj says. I'll only add that they're often referred to as Jablonec garnets, it's where they were mined. It was and is also a centre for making glass stones, and you sometimes get a mix of garnet and glass.

Thanks. Tested them all on the Presidium, garnets.

Please cover my ignorance...what's the Presidium, an' how do you test stones on it?

It's a gem tester. It doesn't differentiate between lab created stones and natural stones, though. This is the one I have. You pretty much turn it on and put the point on the pen thing on a gemstone. It's really fun when you hit the green area for diamond. :)

My (really limited) experience with Diamonds is that they far more costly to purchase than to sell. Diamonds, of all markets including precious metals, is the most rigged. Way worse than a Crap-Shoot.

Thanks...I'm impressed with the technology. Presidium probably measures heat transfer, and thus deals with very small variations among precious stones. Sophisticated, therefore somewhat costly.

But finding diamonds sold as costume jewely is priceless. My husband bought me my Presidium for one of my birthdays.
