Featured Age of stick pin head with clear glass gems

I’m presuming that’s what this is with the hole in the back?
It tests as silver although if there was a hallmark it was on the pin but it may just be plated.
What’s interesting me is the glass gems are very roughly cut. When I cleaned it a gem fell out. They are held in by the metal not by glue and although they are foil backed they don’t look like the modern clean cut ones. Every gem has a slightly different shape and facet sizes.
So, is this a sign of age or a sign of lack of quality? Or both?

That's paste. Proper old paste. As in, early 19th.

Nice find! It once was a brooch, system sawn, the hole is certainly threaded and a special hair pin (often with a spring to give a trembling effect!) could be screwed in it to pic in a bun.
1870-1890 paste!

 

Trembler is the thing, agreed. I do think it might be earlier.
