Hello , can someone help me out with dating this platter ? Picked this up at an estate sale a few years ago as i loved the eagle image for $40 . Any help dating it would be great! Small maker mark at the back could be a letter "B" POSSIBLE ? Thanks .. 20220516_073333_compress88.jpg 20220516_073153_compress26.jpg IMG_20220516_073240_compress25.jpg 20220516_073142_compress1.jpg

  3. Found an article with a very similar looking dish that the author says is from ~1840's England ( https://minermuseum.blogspot.com/2011/11/sampling-of-platters.html ) here's the link, only issue is I can't get images to load on there very well. The author describes the dish in the 4th paragraph from the top though.
Strangely enough the images load when using the wayback machine, but it takes significantly longer to load: https://web.archive.org/web/2012080...logspot.com/2011/11/sampling-of-platters.html
Looks like your dish has a sister at the Alice T. Miner Museum!

Hello Debora , that's a great question . I thought the eagle emblem looked to me like the civil war era ? but only has 13 stars . So might be earlier ..

  6. My pleasure! I'm really happy I was able to find that resource. Neat that it's from a museum's page. Shame it doesn't mention the maker but a date like that is pretty cool!

Spongeware border and certainly looks to be from over here. But that spongeware is more Scottish to my eye.
